Adding more LTC beds in Kitchener to better serve the community
On a sunny Friday in Kitchener this week, residents, staff, families and special guests gathered to celebrate a new chapter for peopleCare A.R. Goudie Long-Term Care (LTC) Home in meeting the needs of the community. Together with the Minister of Long-Term Care and local elected officials, peopleCare broke ground on a 128-bed addition to the existing Home that will open in 2025.

“peopleCare AR Goudie, and the beautiful property on which it stands, is part of a long and rich history of helping those in the community who need support,” says peopleCare Chairman and CEO Brent Gingerich. “We thank Minister Cho and the government for enabling leading operators like peopleCare to better serve our communities through continued investment, building much-needed long-term care beds an d creating jobs that offer meaning and purpose for our caring team members.”
The Minister offered his congratulations to the peopleCare team on the groundbreaking, adding, “Our government is fixing long-term care and ensuring we build homes for seniors in the communities they help build. Today marks a significant milestone in Kitchener. When building is complete, additional residents will have a new, modern and comfortable place to call home.”
With the additional beds, even more people will be able to age in this community they love, in a modern and beautiful home, surrounded by family, friends and neighbours. Highlights of the project include:
- A four-storey addition to the existing Home
- 128 more LTC beds to serve the needs of more residents, creating a 208-bed LTC Home.
- Bright and open reception area and vibrant lounge spaces.
- Engaging social and restorative activities in the large dining and activity rooms, and lounges located in each 32-bed Resident Home Area.
- Spacious 1 and 2 bed resident rooms.
- Beautifully landscaped gardens and safe, enjoyable outdoor space for all residents.
- Dedicated home area offering special care and supports for residents living with dementia.

Once the expansion is complete, the 208-bed LTC Home will anchor peopleCare’s long-planned vision for a vibrant community of care that wraps care, services and programs around local seniors to help them live and age well in Kitchener.

For instance, AR Goudie LTC helped to pilot rapid point-of-care COVID antigen tests and the team helped map the skyways in a trial of drone delivery of meds to LTC homes – in collaboration with University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy, Air Matrix, Region of Waterloo, Hogan Pharmacy, and Transport Canada.
