COVID-19 Precautions to Protect Residents, Staff and Visitors
Year-round, peopleCare’s top priority is the safety and wellbeing of our residents, families, staff and others who spend time in our Homes. With the emergence of the COVID-19 virus, we have been working closely with public health officials, the government and our partners to prepare and take the necessary precautions to help keep everyone in our communities safe and healthy.
This week, we have begun active screening of everyone coming into our Homes including residents, families, staff, students, volunteers, and suppliers. That means we are now proactively checking for symptoms and asking about recent travel history and contacts. Those who are ill or at risk of having been exposed to COVID-19 are asked not to enter our Homes.
These are necessary precautions to help keep everyone safe and we appreciate everyone’s support. And as a reminder, washing our hands and avoiding touch our face are simple steps we can all take to prevent transmission and infection.
peopleCare has rigorous infection control and surveillance practices and protocols in place year-round, based on public health guidelines. And in the past weeks, we’ve also taken a number of additional steps to ensure we are as prepared as possible such as:
- Reviewing our pandemic and staffing contingency plans, infection prevention and control plans, and on-site supply of personal protective equipment.
- Connecting daily and working closely with Ontario Public Health, the Government and the Ontario Long-Term Care Association to stay updated on the latest developments and directives for long-term care.
- Communicating frequently with residents and families, staff, students, volunteers and our community partners to ensure everyone is well-informed and prepared to collaboratively respond to the evolving situation
peopleCare Homes have a special place in their communities and we appreciate the way our staff, families and partners help and support one another every single day. We are counting on your continued support: If you are sick, don’t visit. If you are ill, don’t come to work.
Working together with our communities, peopleCare will continue to do everything possible to protect the health and wellbeing of everyone who lives in, works at or visits our Homes.
Anyone with questions or concerns about their loved one in a peopleCare Home is encouraged to contact the Executive Director or the Director of Care.
